The key word for winter skin care: protection.
We should protect the skin from cold outdoors, from the dryness of heated air indoors, from festive party’s excesses, from cold rain or snow. Even darkness affects the skin. As it changes our circadian rhythms and regulation, frequently changing sleep patterns and making skin restore at a slower rate.
Read on for our key tips, product recommendations and advice from Dr. Tiina Meder to help protect skin during the colder season.
WINTER SKINCARE FOR SENSITIVE AND ROSACEA PRONE SKIN
Seasonal changes can be challenging for skin. Sensitive skin is especially fragile in wintertime, but in case of rosacea prone skin the challenge is the choice of texture.
Classic “winter skincare” is rich in oils and textures, supposing to help protect skin better. This is a myth to debunk. Researchers from Scandinavian countries have proven the inefficiency of textures “rich in oils” compared to light emulsions. This is good news for rosacea patients because all kinds of oils are not recommended to use.
WINTER SKIN PRODUCTS TO USE
FOR SENSITIVE AND ROSACEA PRONE SKIN
For rosacea prone skin choose oil-free creams as oils can seriously worsen the skin’s condition. A calming and gentle microbiome-friendly routine starting from cleansing such as Net-Apax calming cleansing mask is highly recommended alongside additional calming solutions, like Meder Beauty Red-Apax concentrate and Soin-Apax serum.
All are suitable for sensitive, sensitised and rosacea prone skin.
DR. TIINA MEDER RECOMMENDS
“I recommend applying a thin layer of non-pressed powder before going outdoors, even if you don’t like makeup in real life. Nowadays powders are very light and natural – the cloud of powder particles helps to create a protective layer on the skin, softening the temperature contrast to skin and preventing water evaporation.”
FOR ADDED HYDRATION
Layering skincare can help dry skin cope with seasonal changes. We recommend enriching routines with hydrating heroes. Meder Beauty products labelled number 6 are perfect universal solutions to give skin extra help.
KEY TIPS FOR WINTER SKINCARE
For all skin types, it’s very important to minimise temperature contrast as it can be very damaging for your skin barrier. Avoid long hot showers and wash your face with lukewarm water.
Boost skin regeneration with circadian regulating products. As the lack of natural light can disrupt sleep patterns and slow skin regeneration.
Apply skincare at more than 15 minutes before going out. The skin’s ability to absorb product decreases in cold weather.
Avoid winter skin triggers. Especially for rosacea prone skin, common triggers to avoid are well known – hot beverages outdoors (better to avoid, think warm and not hot), mulled wine (sorry), cold wind (avoid it as much as you can).
